I think you'll find Robert Edmundson in Fannin Co., GA in 1860 with his parents and siblings. Here's the entry:

1860 United States Federal Census > Georgia > Fannin > Georgia Militia District 844

William Edmonson 38 NC
Sarah 30 NC
Louisa 12 GA
Robert 10 GA
Joseph 7 GA
Georgia 3 GA

Also living in Fannin Co. at the same time is a 75 year old Robert Edmonson born in NC. It's a good bet that he's the above William's father. There are several other Edmondson households in the county with roots in NC.

You'll also find your Robert living in Fannin Co in 1880. The census taker didn't write his last name legibly, though, and it was transcribed as follows. There also is no initial "A." It was just misread. I've corrected it on ancestry.com.

Below is the entry as they transcribed it:

1880 United States Federal Census > Georgia > Fannin > Skeinak > District 60

Robert A. Edmeson 29
Martha J. Edmeson 24
Elisabeth Edmeson 8
William C. Edmeson 6
Joseph L. Edmeson 3
John D. Edmeson 8M

Jane (no relation that I know of)
