Brian,
I have no further information on James, Jr. and Jean Innis (Ennis) except that they married 2-24-1796 and James died 9-30-1834 in Warren County, KY. James Jr.'s brother Alexander went to South Carolina to visit his Lavender cousins and stayed there in Edgefield County, marrying Lydia Cogburn and having one son, Samuel Calhoun Edmunds.
As for their parents, James was one of two sons of John Edmunds and Mary Watkins. I have seen some information stating that Mary was not of the same church as John, so the church refused to recognize the marriage and considered the children illegitimate.
As for Sarah Lavender, traditional history is that she was the daughter of William Lavender and Mildred Mills and granddaughter to Charles Lavender, but recent research hints that William was actually her eldest brother with Charles being father to both. A will found in Virginia that may be Mildred's father's was written after Sarah was born, but mentions Mildred Mills not Mildred Lavender.
Anyway, earlier information is hard to come by since Virginia stored their records at William and Mary College for a while and a fire there destroyed some records. Two other bits of info. James Edmunds (Sr.) did serve with the Colonial forces for Virginia although there is evidence he took ill before his duty ended and Alexander stood in his stead and was at Yorktown for the surrender. Also, family tradition is that three Lavender brothers came here from France with one settling in South Carolina and the other two settling in Virginia.
