According to my files, your Richard Coleman Edmondson was the son of Thomas Edmondson (will, Lunenburg Co. VA 1760) who married Grissell Coleman. Thomas was the son of Benjamin Edmondson (will proved in Essex Co. VA 1727) who married Margaret, whose last name might have been Underwood.
Benjamin was the son of Thomas Edmondson (1667-1715) of Essex Co. VA. This line is well written up in many places, so you could probably find all kinds of documentation.
