John Edmondson and Catherine Dunn, Essex, VA
Some show that the daughter of John Edmondson and Catherine Dunn named Judith Edmondson was born in the 1760s....as their last child. Is it possible that Judith was actually one of the earlier children, and perhaps she was born in the 1740s (as were some of her known brothers)?I suspect that the birth year shown by some for Judith is just a guess, but perhaps there is actually some evidence of which I am not aware.
Can anyone confirm or refute that the above daughter named Judith Edmondson was the wife of a John Dunn?A John and Judith (Edmondson) Dunn had a daughter who was named Mary Dunn (per a professional genealogist), and that Mary Dunn married a John Smith (married around 1800 or so, it APPEARS).A daughter of John and Mary (Dunn) Smith named Sophronia Smith married Carter Croxton, and their son named Dr. William S. Croxton married a daughter of William Dunn "III" (who apparently married a Lucy Smith and a Diana Unknown).I would not be surprised if the John Dunn who married Judith Edmondson was the John Dunn who was a known son of William Dunn "III" (William Dunn "III" left his Will in Essex Co., VA in 1795/1799, and that Will mentioned his son named John, as well as his daughter who married Dr. William S. Croxton).
The age of Judith Edmondson is important to my research, since I am trying to determine if Mrs. Winifred (Unknown....but MAYBE "Dunn") Bennett was an older (probably) sister of the above Mary Dunn who married John Smith.Mrs. Winifred (Dunn????) Bennett, however, was born around 1765-1768, so for Mrs. Judith (Edmondson) Dunn to have been her mother, Judith Edmondson would have to have been born by the late-1740s or so.Any/all comments will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
