I certainly do believe it is the same family. Below is some of the information I have collected on the Edgecombe Co. Edmondson family:
1830 Edgecombe County, NC Census lists:
Elias Edmondson, p. 304.
Thomas Edmondson, p. 304.
William Edmondson, p. 304.
Edgecombe Co. NC
1839. Thomas Edmondson died intestate. Three tracts of land: 55 acres, 150 acres, 208 acres, 6 slaves and one child. A suit occurred between heirs. Plaintiffs: Asa, Ellenor, Alfred Edmondson, Blake Bryan and wife Penelope, William Garrett and wife Nelly, Littleberry Bradley and wife Winny, Alexander Bradley and wife Elizabeth, Micajah Madry and wife Nancy, Charlotte Edmondson, Pollard Edmondson, and Thomas Edmondson. Defendants: Mary, Martha Ann, Ichabod and Chacy Ann Edmondson, infants. (This suit might have been a device to arrange for the court to assign the property among the children rather than an adversarial suit over the property).
1840 Edgecombe Co. NC Census lists:
Wright Edmondson
Pollard Edmondson
Alfred Edmondson
William Edmondson
Joseph Edmondson
Asa Edmondson
Pollard, Alfred and William appear to live close together.
The family line of Daniel Lee Edmondson, Los Banos CA, and Linda Laminack:
Thomas Edmundson, b. in N.C. in 1776, Halifax County. Married Clarey ? and had 16 children. Their son Thomas Edmondson, b. 1818, m. Nancy White and had 9 children:
1. Martha Elizabeth, b. Oct. 1843.
2. Charloty (Clary), b. April, 1846.
3. Asa Randolph, b. May, 1849.
4. Lorough Caroline, b. Feb., 1852.
5. Erastus Duncan, b. April, 1855 (from whom Daniel is descended).
6. Thomas, b. Sept, 1858.
7. Pollard Coot, b. 1860. Married Sarah Cook. Lived in Benton/Washington County, AR.
8. John, b. August, 1865.
9. Willis, b. June, 1868. Settled in Centralia, Illinois.

My latest theory is that Thomas Edmondson born 1818 and married to Nancy White, may well be the son of the son of Thomas Edmondson born abt. 1765 - 1774 in Halifax Co., NC and Clarey (?).
I also believe that Thomas born abt. 1765 - 1774 in Halifax Co., NC died 1839 Edgecombe Co., NC could be a brother to John Edmondson born 1762 in Halifax Co., NC died 1817 Edgecombe Co., NC, and William Edmondson born abt. 1763 - 1764 in Halifax Co., NC died 1804 in Edgecombe Co., NC.
These 3 men may be sons of Thomas Edmondson born abt. 1740 possibly in Maryland died 1823 in Edgecombe Co. and his unknown wife who died prior to 1783. Thomas Edmondson may have then married Ann Howard Hodges about 1783 and had children Penelope, Pollard and Randolph.
