On 2/25/08, Joni Edmondson was looking for the parents of Joseph B. Edmondson b. 18 Jul 1813 in TN [d. 1888, Williamson Co., IL]. MS Joni thought Joseph's father might have been William Edmondson b. 11 Aug 1766, in N.C.

Her father, Otway Burns, Sr., b. abt. 1745, d.
14 Aug 1797, both in Onslow Co., NC. His son
Otway Jr., was a hero in the War of 1812. Senior's
wife was probably Lisannah [or Lisanus] Spooner,
b. 1751 in Onslow Co., where she died. Senior's
father was Francis Burns b. abt. 1720 in Ayrshire,
Scotland and d. 1792 in Swansboro, Onslow Co., NC.
Francis married Mary Otway b. abt. 1723, Scotland.
She d. in Onslow Co. Her father was Ephraim Otway
b. abt. 1690 in Scotland and d. Bef. Apr. 1744 in
Queens Creek, Swansboro, Onslow Co., NC.
I don't know the father of William Edmondson. From gleaning the research of S. W. Edmondson, a guess would be
that Bryant Edmondson of Onslow County, NC is the father of William. Next in line would be Bryant Sr., and then THE
Thomas. I don't know where to begin with the English connection.
