Turner B. Edmondson lived at Paris, Lamar County in the 1840's to 1863 when he was killed by Jeff Chisolm after a boundary line fight. The Census indicated he was born in NC. He was. His father was Dr. John Edmondson of Wayne County, NC, who was a son of James Edmondson and Penelope Stanton Edmondson of Bullhead Plantation on the border of Wayne and Green counties. James was an officer in a NC line battalion in the Revolution and died in 1798.
He and his brother John were the only known children of Dr. Thomas Edmundson who moved from Nansemond County, Virginia, to Edgecombe County NC and began to buy land.
Dr. Thomas's ancestors are a mystery. One descendant has spent years trying to trace him. He does not descend from Thomas Edmundson in Essex County, who arrive there in the 1650-1665 period. Another Thomas Edmundson was imported on an indenture to New Kent County in the 1690's. John Edmundson was in New Kent County by 1688. Some of their people might be the Edmundsons in Isle of Wight County, near Nansemond. Dr. Thomas Edmundson's people have usually spelled the name with a u.
Turner Edmundson is listed in a family genealogy as "gone to Texas". He had an older brother James also listed as "gone to Texas".
1. Does anyone have information on James Edmondson?
2. Does anyone have information on Turner's living in Mississippi before he went to Texas? His daughter Winifred was born in Mississippi and seems to have some property there which he handled. She might be a child of an earlier marriage. Any information on her later life would be welcomed.
