Nancy, I have done much research on the Edmondsons of Pendleton District, SC. If you will provide me your e-mail address, I will attach my large SC file which covers Pendleton and other parts of the state. In summary, there seem to be two family lineages in Pendleton District in the 1790-1820 period. One is that of William Edmundson, son of Caleb, who was Court Clerk in the area of Pickensville for some years and moved on to Alabama with some of his people. His ancestors were of the Quaker Edmundsons of York/Chester Counties, PA. Living near William was a group of Edmondsons from Virginia, located next to Gen. Pinckney at the little village of Pickensville. They arrived about 1792-93. One of this family was Thomas Edmondson who moved from Winchester, Frederick County, Virginia, with his second wife and several sons and one daughter of his first marriage. Many of these folks moved into northeast Georgia a few years later. I am pretty sure one of the James Edmondsons, the man who lived on the same property near Gen. Pinckney, was Thomas's brother, married to Priscilla or Drucilla. Both were born in Essex County, Virginia. James seems to have moved directly to Pendleton from Essex. Thomas had lived a long time in Frederick County before he made his move. James died about 1807 and Thomas in 1809. Thomas had a son named John who was quie prominent in Charles City County, Virginia, and who married a daughter of Gov. Benjamin Harrison, Elizabeth, and then another woman in Augusta County, VA. I can find no evidence he ever lived in Pendleton District, SC, but he did own land there sold to him by his father with a life interest retained. John died young in Augusta County, leaving two children neither of whom could be your ancestor. The John Edmondson mentioned by Bob is probably a son of James Edmondson, who had a son named James who moved to Gwinnett County, Georgia, and a grandson named Samuel who also moved there. Much of this is still murky and requires some more data. I plan to go to Pickens County, SC, to the courthouse soon to find what I can in the 1820-50 period to help sort this out a little better. As you will see when I send you my file, there was a John Edmondson who died and left property to three children who remained there. A daughter was named Drucilla and a son Thomas. I will have to check again but one was named John, I think. I am doing research for some cousins in Atlanta who are descended from James of Essex and Pendleton. I have discussed the YDNA testing if one of their Edmondson men will help with a sample. I had a pretty close match with another descendant of Thomas Edmondson of Essex, the immigrant, each of us from a different son. The Pendleton bunch are from a third son, Thomas who married Constance Parr. My e-mail address is swedmondson@windstream.net if you want to write to me to provide yours. Stephen W.
