1. WILLIAM1 JONES (PETERA, PETERB, PETERC, RICHARDD) was born Abt. 1734, and died Bef. Mar 1801. He married ANNE BRANCH. She was born Bef. 1745.

Jones, minors of the aforesaid William Jones, decd., and Edward Ward, and Anne, his wife, formerly Anne Jones, to Daniel Jones, of Nottoway Co. 351:15 lb 234-1/2 acres in Nottoway Co.

Articles of Agreement. Jesse Newby of Amelia Co. and Daniel Mann of same. D. Dec. 24, 1814. Consid: [none stated] A dispute once existed between the said parties respecting the meanders of a certain branch called Farris Branch, which often changes its course, which is frequent after heavy showers of rain. to prevent any altercation taking place hereafter between themselves or their heirs, they have agreed to a line marked on trees to divide the two tracts, rather than on the meanders of the stream. This land is adj. Sweathouse Creek, near Johnson's spring, and line of est. of William Jones.

3. ANN2 JONES (WILLIAM1, PETERA, PETERB, PETERC, RICHARDD) was born Bef. 1780, and died Aft. 1801. She married EDWARD WARD, OF "HUNTERS HILL" 20 Dec 1792 in Amelia Co., VA, son of ROWLAND WARD and REBECKAH JONES. He died Bef. 08 Jan 1838 in Shelby Co., TN.

Notes for EDWARD WARD, OF "HUNTERS HILL":
Edward Ward was a justice of the peace in Amelia County from 1793-96. Edward and Ann went to Davidson County, Tennessee, with his cousin, Peter Jones who married Catherine Chappell. He was in Davidson on 26 October 1809 when one witness proved a power of attorney appointing Lew Jones of Lunenburg county to dispose of a slave girl not mentioned in the will of his brother Rowland Ward and distribute the proceeds to his heirs.

Power of Attorney. Edward Ward of Davidson Co., Tennessee as Exor. of Rowland Ward, dec'd., appoints Lew Jones of Lunenburg Co. (Va.) his attorney, and in his name dispose of a Negro girl named Patt that was left undevised by said Rowland Ward, dec'd., and to apply the money from the sale to the rightful claimants, viz., One share to the heirs of Rowland Ward, Jr., dec'd., of Nottoway Co. (Va.); one share to the representative of Richard Jones (B), dec'd; one share to the heirs of Margaret Jones of Nottoway Co. (Va.); one share to the representatives of Robert Jones, Dec'd., of Amelia Co.; and the remaining share to Edward Ward of Davidson Co., Tennessee.

Edward Ward, left will 29 Sept 1837-8 Jan. 1838 [Shelby Co., Tenn., Will Bk. C-1, 1830-47, p. 101]; was an unsuccessful candidate for Congress from Virginia, in 1804 moved to Davidson Co., Tenn., where he purchased "Hunter's Hill" near "The Hermitage" from Andrew Jackson in 1804, was a co-owner with Jackson of racing horses, represented Davidson County in the Tennessee Assembly, 1813-15, and Senate, 1815-029, was Speaker of the Senate 1815-19, was an unsuccessful candidate for governor, 1821, and moved to Shelby CVo., Tenn., 1829 [Biographical Directory of the Tennessee General Assembly, ed. by Robert L. McBride, I (Nashville, 1975), pp. 760-61], married, (bond 25) Dec. 1792 [Williams, op. cit., p. 113], Ann Jones.

Edward bought "Hunters Hill" near "The Hermitage" from Andrew Jackson and lived the life of a wealthy planter. Ward served in the 10th General Assembly (1813-15) and was speaker of the state senate the next two terms (1815-19). An unsuccessful candidate for governor in 1821, he lobbied for the election of Jackson for President in 1823. He was an executor of the will of Peter Piper Jones.

Ward moved to Shelby County where he served on juries and was foreman of grand jury several times. He died in Shelby County about 1837, reportedly at the hands of a nephew (will dated 29 Sept. 1837, recorded 8 Jan. 1838).
