Susan, Here is the Will of Edmund Edmondson who married Jane Howerton: Halifax County, Virginia Will of Edmund Edmundson In the name of God amen ____ I Edmund Edmundson of the County of Halifax, and State of Virginia being very sick in body but of sound mind and good memory do make this my last Will and Testament in manner and form as follows: Imprimis: (means In the first place) It is my wish for all my just debts to be paid out of my estate and then to my beloved wife Jane Edmondson, I lend my plantation, Mehinon (??) I ____ and lend with all the Kitchen furniture 2 feather beds and furniture my cupboard and all the contents therein, my large Sorrel Mare, six choice chairs, my black walnut chest & blue pine chest, my black walnut table, two Milk Cows of her choice, two sows 4 pigs and one roan, three wheels and at my wifes decease, it is my wish for all my land household & kitchen furniture it is to be sold by my Executor, mentioned, and equally divided amongst my children hereafter mentioned To Philip Edmundson, Catherine Edmundson, Edmund Edmundson, Samuel Edmundson, John Edmundson, Nancy Edmundson, William Edmundson, Elizabeth Edmundson, Major Thomas Edmundson, James Edmundson, Jane W. Edmundson, my daughter Frances Hailey, left two children, Catherine Hailey and Samuel Hailey which I do leave one part on conditions - provided they leave a lawful heir and if not to my children before mentioned. My C___ Skillet I give to my daughter Catherine Edmundson, after my wifes death. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal this fourth day of March eighteen hundred and fifteen. At a Court held for Halifax County the 27th day of May 1816 The within last Will and Testament of Edmund Edmundson dec'd was exhibited in Court and proved by the oaths of two of the witnesses thereto subscribed and Ordered to be Recorded. Thereafter Jane Edmundson, the Executrix therein namedcame into Court and refused to take upon herself the burden of the Execution thereof, Whereupon on motion of Samuel Edmundson Junr the executor therein named __________ oath thereto according to law. Certificate is granted to him for obtaining probate thereof in due, he giving Security Whereupon he together with James Howerton and Benjamin Anderton, his securities ____ into and acknowledged.
