A John and Sarah (Grayson?) Edmonson are also my ggg Grandparents. See "Re: Edmonson in Indiana, Terre Haute areas" post. I can add some additional information about John and Sarah. In the History of Jasonville by Ben Sink, "The settlers thirst for religious worship planted a church in the forefront of every settlement. This need was fulfilled for the local area when John Edmonson brought his family from Tennessee in 1839 or 1840 and settled in Lewis Township about a mile and one half north and a little east of the intersection of Main and Meridian street. Rev. John Edmonson had been ordained by the Methodist Church of Tennessee in 1837." (He was the first pastor of the Jasonville Methodist Church.) In History of Lewis Township, 1916; "The first Methodist sermon that was ever preached in the township was preached by John Edmonson, grandfather of Fletcher Edmonson, at his home in 1840. He was born in TN in 1795 and moved to this county in 1840. He died in 1867." They are buried in White Oak Grove Cemetery on N Meridian, Jasonville. Jasonville is in Greene Co., but the cemetery is in Lewis Township, Clay Co.. The markers read (with difficulty) John Edmonson Died April 7,1867, aged 71 ys & 5 ms, and Sarah wife of John Edmonson Died Sep 17, 1876 aged 78 Ys 7 Ms 7 Dy. I am confused about his parents, but a family source states Samuel and Susanna Kemp Edmonson. Additional info would be appreciated. Notify Administrator about this message?
