Looking for info on Edmondsons in AL and came across your msg. One of my paternal great-grandfathers was Thomas Jefferson Edmondson. His origins are a mystery to my fathers family and there are two stories to account for him. One, the family oral history legend is that he and a brother were from Canada or New York, joined the Union Army during the war of the Rebellion, and came South during or after the war and settled in Randolph Co. AL. There Thomas married a woman from a local family named Mitchell. The second story, which might be of interest to you is supported only by birth documentation from GA that a Thomas Jefferson Edmondson was born in GA of people established there, in the area around Coweta Co. I have a copy of this census data and will find it and confirm the location/Co of birth. If this story is true, he moved during or after the war into Randolph CO AL where he married a woman with the last name of Mitchell. Both stories agree that this couple had at least three children all born in AL: Andrew Jackson Edmondson b. 1866(My Father's father), Ulysses Grant Edmondson (does giving your son such a name argue that you were of northern origins?), and David Edmondson. There may have been a daughter also. Anyway, Thomas's first wife died and he married again and had several more children. Of Thomas's sons by his first wife, Andrew moved to Cleburne Co., AL where my father Douglas W. Edmondson was born in 1917.
