I have a complete file of the Edmondson Family Association Bulletin and other records from the family in S.C. A death notice in the"Western Monitor", Lexington, KY, 1818, stated:"Lt. William Edmondson, 32, died of abscess of the liver. He was the son of William Edmundson and his wife Sarah Bobo and grandson of Caleb and Ester Edmundson of S.C. He died in Pendleton County, S.C. and was born in 1786." The parents lived in Pickensville,S.C. as another
notice in the Pendleton Messenger, Sept. 1, 1818, noted. b
Caleb settled in the old Ninety Six Circuit Court District before 1783. He or his son Caleb bought land from Lewis Bobo in 1787 (Deeds B-12, Union County). This land had been deeded to Bobo in 1770 and was located on Wofford's and Barnett's branches of the Tyger River. Tyger River is located in the southeast corner of Union County. Cane Creek runs north of the Tyger and joins it near the Tyger's convergence with the Broad River. William Edmondson was granted 200 acres on Brushy Creek by the Governor in 1784 which he sold in 1785 to Torbert (Grantors Book A-5, Union County). The Census of 1790 showed two William Edmundsons in 96 District. One, recorded as William Edmundson, is shown on p. 84 with one white male above 16, two white males under 16 and five white females. This must have been Lt. William's family as the other William Edmondson, p. 92, had no young males in the family. Caleb, Sr. died in 1792. I have a copy of his will obtained on a personal visit to the Union County Courthouse in 1966. Hope this helps.
