James,
For what it's worth in "Charles City Co., VA Court Orders, 1687-1695" by Benj. Weisiger, at Court ...Westopher for Charles City Co., 5 Aug. 1689 the following entry appears.
"John Williams petitions that in 1681 he and Wm. Edmunds took out a patent in this county for 880 acres, to be equally divided. Jno. Lanier and Sarah his wife, Execs of said Edmunds, refuse to consent to division. Court orders Mr. Ja. Minge in presence of two or three of the neighborhood to divide the land."
William Edmunds and Sarah __?____ had one child Elizabeth Edmunds and sometime before 1689 William Edmunds died and John Lanier married his relict. This was a second marriage for both and between them they had chn. Sarah and Nicholas Lanier.
There is another entry at the same court involving a Thos. Clarke who had married the relict of Jno. Edmunds. Not sure how Wm. and John were related or if they were related.
I am searching for the father of William who may have been Samuel who owned property on Upper Chipoakes near Thomas Weeks in 1637/8.
