I was researching this for a client.I first found the Hewitt ancestry in several VA magazines and books. William Hewitt was a REV War Soldier and sheriff of Stafford County, VA. At some point he failed to pay the taxes he'd collected and lost everything shortly before he died leaving Catherine and his children destitute. I posted trying to locate the parents of Catherine and another Edmonds researcher contacted me and directed me to this:
Chancery Cause Record Fauquier County Virginia; Index Number 1800-023 CATHARINE HEWITT V. ADMR OF JOHN EDMOND ETC . This record lists the family.
This case is online at the Library of VA online catalogue. Its is a bit hard to get to the actual case but you can print it when you do get there.
