Ohio did not register births until later - around 1870, so no birth certificate would exist. I have see Thomas Alva Edison's birth registered in at least two Edison bibles - one at Milan and one in Ft. Myers, FL. Samuel Edison's family is listed in the 1850 OH census for Milan and in 1860 MI census for Port Huron, MI.

Current thinking discredits Rev. John Elliott as the father of Nancy Edison. Her father was Ebenezer Mathews and her mother was Mercy Peckham. Ebenezer Mathews changed his surname to Elliott in order to inherit a farm in Connecticut from his aunt, but I don't want to get involved in this.
