Actually, I was just fishing for an article for a journal ("Herencia" published by the Hispanic Genealogical Research Center of New Mexico) on Hispanic genealogy that I am involved with. Interesting responses. It (the article) was published in a New Mexico Highlands (university located in Las Vegas, New Mexico)newspaper and made mention of living relatives in Mexico City.

Does any one have a copy of Thomas Edison's birth certificate? If so, who are his parents? In looking at the available documentation on Edison's ancestors his mother's lineage appears to be somewhat suspect.

It is interesting how prominent families sometimes get creative with documentation when answers to tricky questions are hazy.
How common is Alva for a non-Hispanic ship captain's name? Mexicans don't have trouble spelling (actually most "Mexicans" that I know can spell quite well in two languages unlike others who sometimes struggle with just one language) they just use v and b interchangeably such as Alva and Alba.
