Martin,

Richard Lovell Edgeworth II emigrated to Georgetown, South Carolina, USA and although he was the eldest son of Richard Lovell Edgeworth I, and therefore his heir,he resigned all claims to be head of the Edgeworth family, whose family seat was at Edgeworthstown, Co. Longford, Ireland. Is is therefore not inconceivable that he was known as 'Poor Dick'.
