Can anybody help me clear up this mystery? I have always been told that we are related in some way to the Edgeworths of Edgeworthstown. My grandfather, Richard Saville THOMAS, spoke of Maria Edgeworth (the author) as being a relative. My uncle was baptised Richard Lovell THOMAS - Lovell apparently being one of our family names. Unfortunately I didn't get around to asking my grandfather for more details and he is now no longer alive. Meanwhile, whilst researching my THOMAS family, I have come across a Maria Edgeworth THOMAS, who was born in Liverpool, England, in June 1840. She was the daughter of Mary ESKILDSON and George Burdett THOMAS who married in Liverpool in 1837. Maria's brother John Henry THOMAS was my great-grandfather. Meanwhile, Maria Edgeworth THOMAS married an Edgeworth Conolly WHEELER (perhaps a cousin?)in December 1872, in Birkenhead (near Liverpool), England. I see from looking around on the net that there are Edgeworths in both England and Ireland, some of them clearly from a wealthy background and others from more humble backgrounds. Does anybody know if these Edgeworth families are supposed to be related? The following are recurrent family names in my THOMAS familly, for which I can find no other connection but which could be important in making an Edgeworth connection: LOVELL, SAVILLE, and BURDETT. Do any of these ring bells with anyone?
