Louise,
You sent a message to me via email, I tried to reply a couple of times and it bounced back so am posting to the list in hopes that you see a reply from me.In email to me you wrote:
"I have found a misprint in the 1850 census for Newton Co. (Osage), which has Rueben Kerby listed as a Casey. All of the bible records for wife and children match exactly for the Kerby's."
I have two printed versions of the 1850 census for Newton County...transcribed by two seperate parties.I do find a Reubin Casey in Osage Twp, with a daughter Sarah Ann.You mentioned that the Bible records match exactly for the Kerby's.The wife of the John Edgemon that you made reference to was named Sarah JANE Casey. This John Edgemon and wife Sarah received mail at Dry Fork in Boone County...are found on 1880 census there.Census records also show Kerby family living at Dry Fork.Your Sarah Kerby would have been young if she was wife of the mentioned John Edgemon...but perhaps, she was Sarah Kirby, married a Casey and then as Sarah Casey married John Edgemon...I doubt that that is what took place, but possible. There is a Kirby family listed in Osage TWP 1850 Newton County Census...born Tennessee, living near the Allred and Newberry families.Head of household as age 34.Reubin Casey as age 43...if there is an error for the surname, and he is Reubin Kirby, what relationship to the other Kirby household? One as born Tennessee the other North Carolina. You named two Edgemon children in the email sent to me.The John Edgemon and Sarah Jane Casey that I have record of had a total of twelve children.I have had contact with some of their descent...all make note of the Casey connection (which could also be through John Edgemon's mother, whose maiden name was Casey)The family Bible of Braxton Edgemon and wife Polly Casey name their son John Edgemon's wife as Sarah Jane Casey. If you think of something else to check into, let me know and I will see what I can find for you.Take Care,Judy Tate
