Alan,
I have been trying to do some tracking on the Lansil and Malinda Edgecomb family.
The 1850 Federal Census shows for Allen Co., OH
Lanson Edgecomb Age 35 birthplace: NY
Malinda36NY
Mary13OH( I suspect this is really Marilla from the 1860 WI census)
Ezra05OH
Rufus03OH
Lucia Russell25NY
The Bureau of Land Management has a record of a Lausil Edgecomb of Allen Co.,OH purchasing land in Allen Co. on October 16, 1835.The BLM has Lausil but when you look at the original handwriting it is surely Lansil.
Also the BLM has a John Russell of Trumbull Co. who purchases land very near Lansil's in Allen Co. within a month of each other on September 15, 1835
There is a James Russell in nearby Auglarize Twp. aged 24 in 1850 born in Ohio and a Rachel aged 19 born in Ohio.
So, I am working on a theory that Josiah Russell and Mrs. Spouse Unknown moved from upstate New York to the Trumbull/Portage Co., OH around 1826 with children possibly:
Malinda Born Abt. 1814 NY, Lucia Abt. 1825 NY, James Abt. 1826 OH, Rachel Abt. 1831 OH.
John's birth, not sure.John buying the land so near Lansil makes me wonder. Also if Lansil and Malinda were married in Trumbull Co., in 1837, Lansil had to do some back-tracking to go back to Trumbull Co., for his marriage.
Just thinking out loud.Any thoughts/comments/ suggstions........
~Melissa
