Hi,
My Husband Walter Edge's Grandparents and Great Grandparents came from Lumpkin Co. Ga. I have traced his family back to William Harper-Edge-Harper who was born 1820. He married Delphenia Lane in 1853 there as Harper, Served in the Cival War as Harper. Then just after changed his name to Edge. Then between 1870 and 1880 changed his name back to Harper. It was handed down that his mother was an Edge and never married. (Don't know if this is true or not.) Old Jonas Edge was the father of your Charles. He was exactly 18 years older than our Wm. I believe Lucretia was a sister to Jonas and probably Wm's mother and that his father was a Harper. It was said that the Harper family came from Ireland. The Edge's and Harper's all lived around the Area of Cavendar's Creek Road out toward the Slabtown Area. Wm. and his wife, his son Evin Pierson , and Evin's son Bart and wife Mahalla are all buried in the Pleasant Retreat Cem. on the Crossroad of Sandy Flats and Jim Nix Road in the Slabtown area. This is in a corner of White Co. and Lumpkin Co. Ga. Some of Wm's children kept the name Edge, and some went back to the name Harper with William.
Lucretia was the only woman in the area who was of an age to be William's mother that I ever found. She got Salt Rations from the State in 1867. Nearly all the Edge and Harper men served in the War. I believe Jonas was Wm's Uncle, and Lucretia Wm's Mother. All those Edge's and Harper's were kin in that area.
