Hi Donna, purely a comment from England as I acquired much information surrounding the Quaker Yardleys of Bucks county, Pennsylvania in 1682 and their inlaws. The area of Barrow is just outside Chester city, and the Edges you mention certainly seem to originate from the area of Edge in Malpas parish, 15 miles south. Many English names were allocated c.1327 (tax reasons!)based on the tiny local area you lived in or nearby natural features. My Yardleys were from Horton parish in Staffordshire where a major family at Horton Hall were the Edges. Their surname comes from owning the lands on Grindlestone Edge, a large bluff above Rudyard lake. The large concentrations of Edges in nearby parishes are probably connected to junior family members over generations. However, there are many local natural features with Edge in title which could be connected. There does not seem to be any genetic connection between these Edges and the Malpas ones 35 miles west. bye Pete Notify Administrator about this message?
