Hello Cousin! There are lots of us trying to find Good old John's roots. Here is a fairly accurate pedegree of the Revolutionary War soldier.

Here is some more information from the John Edgar - Elizabeth Cummins family Bible. John Edgar was born of unknown parents on 14 February 1758 near Trenton, New Jersey. He married Elizabeth Cummings on 18 March 1780 (one record lists the 8th) in Rowan County, North Carolina (probably Iredell County of today). John Edgar moved his family to Iredell County after his initial Revolutionary War enlistmrnt period expired in 1779. The Bible entries assures descendants membership in the Daughters (Sons) of the American Revolution.
The Bible also documents the Samuel Edgar - Mary Defever family that went to Illinois in the 1830's

2. Susannah, b. 3, 5, or 8 Feb 1783, Iredell Co., NC; m. James Bates, 28 July 1807 and bore at least four children including Thomas J.
3. Jane "Jenny," b. 2 Oct 1784 Iredell Co., NC; m. Joseph Vance, 23 November 1808, Green Co., Ky.
4. John (Jr.), b. 4 June 1786, Iredell Co., NC; m. Nancy Hind, 27 Aug 1810, Barren County.,KY; d. possibly in Green Co., KY.
5. William Thomas, b. 13 March 1788, Iredell Co., NC?
6. Josiah Jefferson, b. 17 Sep 1789, Logan Co., KY; m. No 1, Nancy Duncan, 1or 2 Oct 1810; m., No. 2, Sally Harness, 1820 or 1821; m. No. 3 Susannah Barnes; d. Mar 1857, Green Co., MO.
7. Elmer or Eliner, b. 30 Sep 1791, Logan Co., KY.
8 Elizabeth, b. 26 Mar1793, Logan Co., KY; m. Robert Hind, 13 Jun 1814.
9. Johnston, b. 17 Jul 1795, Logan Co., KY; m., Susanna Harness, 1817; d 13 Dec 1859, Hardin Co., KY.
10. Samuel, b 1 April 1797, Logan Co., KY; m., No1, Mary "Polly" (?) Defever, 26 Nov 1822; m. No. 2, Melissa Jane (Conley) Munden, 23 May 1856; d. 30 May 1883.
11. Hiram, b., 23 Feb 1799, Barren Co., KY; m. Janice "Jenny" McCubbin, 15 Aug 1825; d. 4 Dec 1869, Hart Co., KY.
12. Squire Lowry, b. 3 or 23 Aug 1801, Barrren Co., Ky; m., No 1, Sarah Ann Baker, 8 Jan 1835; m., No. 2 Adeline Bledsoe, 7 Mar 1754.
Elizabeth Cummins was the daughter of either John Cummins or Samuel Cummins born on 3 March 1761, probably in Pennsylvania
For those of you looking for nineteenth Century Edgars in Knox County, llinois, there is a Chapter in the Robert H. Shaver book (See my previous message) which treats James and Samuel Edgar. I am desperately searching for this book and a previous Edgar geneology book.
