Nicholas Edgar is my wife's ancestor. I have quite a bit of info on Nicholas from about 1813, when he married Ann Andrus in Louisiana. I have un proven history by word of mouth that Nicholas immigrated from Scotland to NY. Story goes he helped Robert Fulton with his mchanization of the sailing ship. Fulton had several unsuccessful trials. Nicholas designed a different screw which the Clairmont used in its successful first voyage. He then went to PA (He may have entered through PA and gone to NY) and then to Lousisana. There is a William Edgar living in New Orleans in 1805 with 4 children. Could this be someone of the family who went to Louisiana with Nicholas? Could this be Nicholas/ father? brother? No kin? Nicholas was west of the Mississippi River in St. Mary Parish, Franklin, the Parish seat, in 1813, when he marries Ann Andrus. A large part of Ann's family lives in Opelousas, north of St. Mary Parish. Nicholas and Ann later move there, from there they then go to Texas in1837 and there they settle in Sabine County. One of Nicholas' sons, Daniel Divinity, lived in there. One of Daniel's daughters, Ollie, was born there. Ollie is my wife's grandmother.
