This project was conceived by three Edgar guys: James Edgar of Canada, Steve Edgar of England, and Richard Edgar of Ireland. The information being compared is on the Y chromosome, which means the sample must be taken from a male Edgar. A test kit is received from a laboratory in Utah and the cost if $195. However, I understand that if a participant needs financial help on this, a percentage of the fee can be contributed by the "association", from lack of a better word.

I'm going to contact James Edgar in Canada and have him explain this to you since he was primarily responsible for arranging this. I think he can do a better job on that than I can. One major exciting thing is that test results can be compared with others who are involved in the project and a certain degree of kinship can be established. For instance Richard Edgar of Ireland (I have met him personally) and I are from the Celtic tribe and somewhere back there we are "related." Sooner or later there will undoubtedly be others who are of the Celtic tribe as well and I might be able to find information that I've been looking for so long - where my Edgar ancestors originated, etc. At this point all I know is they were from Scotland and northern Ireland, and that's not documented except word of mouth.

Frankie
