VA Land Grant #41 to: John Mason Edgar, August 12, 1799, Bedford Co., VA. 320 acres on both sides of Slinkers Creek.

John M. Edgar appears as a witness to Rev. War Pension documents regarding the appointment of a lawyer, Thomas Lumpkins, on behalf of John Wright of Bedford Co., VA, on June 27, 1794. This info was found at the WRIGHT forum, posted by Robert N. Grant.

Marriage bonds of Bedford Co., VA: Apr. 18, 1796; John Edgar & Rebeckah Hoole, dt. Chas.; David Hoole, Surety, Married by Alderson Weeks, April 20, 1796.

The "Hole" family researchers refer to John, as John M Edgar, born around 1760-1770. Several researchers mention that John and Rebecca Edgar went on to Columbiana and or Stark Co., OH. (these are neighboring counties) I checked both counties and found several John Edgars, as early as 1820. There is a very large Edgar family in Sugar Creek twp., Stark Co., John Edgar appears to be the head, and he was born in PA. I did find a John Edger, born VA about 1770, a farmer with Elenor Edgar, born 1806 in VA and Phoebe Williams, age 8 born OH, on the 1850 census, Lexington Twp., Stark Co., OH. I also found a John M Edgar on the 1830 census for Columbiana Co., than again on the 1840 census as John Edgar, between the ages of 70-80, and 1 female 50-60. There is also a Robert Edgar in 1840, Columbiana Co., between the ages of 40-50 and lots of kids! There is also an OH land grant record for John Edgar of Stark Co., OH, 80 acres in 1825. So if anyone has additional info on any of these John Edgar, please post it here, other researchers have mentioned that John and Rebecca had at least 7 children, I do not have any of the names of their children.
And the 1810 census for Bedford Co., VA., does list a John "Elgan".....it's pretty messy and could be John Edgar.

this John Edgar needs a lot of work! Regards, Sharon Edgar
