In the book, "Peter Edes, Pioneer Printer in Maine," it states that the china bowl was given to the Massachusetts Historical Society by Mary Ann Cuming Edes, the widow of Benjamin Edes, son of Peter Edes, in December 1871.
Mary Jane Edes Pairo was the daughter of Benjamin and Maryann Edes, but it does not appear that she gave the bowl to the historical society - her mother did.
The bowl was given to the society through Dr. John Warren Stearns, her son-in-law. Mrs. Edes also wrote a letter to the society detailing the background of the bowl and also donated a copy of a letter written to her son, Benjamin, from her father-in-law, Peter Edes. The letter written by Peter was in response to his grandson's request for an account of the tea party.
