Nancy, I have been trying to find your William M. Edens' ancestors. Altho, I havenot found them for sure, I have found some info about the family. Possibly you already know all of this. First of all, I feel the name was Eden (not Edens or Eaton).
I agree that Williams' parents apparently were John and Syrena Duval. Syrena was born 1825 someplace in Tenn. John was born 1818 in Ky. and died (when?) supposedly in Delaware Co., Ok. (Delaware Co. was formed in 1907. If John died before then, it was just Indian Territoty).
John and Syrena married circa 1844-45 someplace in Missouri. Their children were: Mary F. (born 1846); Elias (1848); Sarah A. (1849); William C. (1851); Lavina (1853); James L. (1855); and John T. (1858). NOTE: On the 1860 census it listed William C., which probably was an error.
John and Syrena were listed on the 1850 census of McDonald Co., Mo. (which is right below Newton Co.). With them was children Mary. Elias and Sarah. On the 1860 census they were listed as the John Eaton Family in Crawford Co., Ark., which is approximately 100 miles south of Newton Co. Since the children were all born in Mo. they must have moved to Crawford Co. during the period 1859-early 1860. (Since John supposedly died in Delaware CO., that county is across the Ok//Ark border near McDonald Co. I use the word "supposedly" because it comes from other researchers on this family.
William M. was born 5/1851 supposedly in Newton Co. (Keep in mind his parents were in nearby McDonald Co. on the 1850 census). He died 12/20/1911 in Douglas Co., Mo. On the 1880 census he lived in Taney Co., which is near Douglas Co.
William married Phebe Angeline Roberts circa 1874, but I dont know where. I couldnot find the family in 1870, but they probably married in Ark. or Mo. and they had at least 8 children: Elizabeth (b. 1875); Effa May (1877); Margaret (1879); Rena (1880); John W. (1883); Clara (1885); James R. (1888); and Eva Agnes (1892).
Phebe was born 1853 in Iowa and died 19311 in Okmulgee Co., Ok. She apparently lived with son James and his family, who also lived in Okmulgee Co.
Regarding who was John's father, I dont know. On the 1820 census of Ky. there were very few Eden families and a lot of Eaton's. John named his first son Elias. There was an Elias Eden on the 1820 census of Casey Co., Ky. Maybe he was John's father.
I guess this is about all I know about this family. Perhaps it will give you some food for thought. Happy HUnting. Bob Eddings - no relation.
