Dear Jackie
just to bring you up to date regarding the Eden branch of my family. It appears that they were of Anglo-Saxon descent living in Preston Lncs. in the 19th century. my gfather James Joseph was born in Preston in 1899 to William and Sarah Eden .Sarah Highcock before she was married in 1895 was of Irish parentage and came from County Kildare. The main branch of the family did originate in the Carlisle area of northern England and they migrated down to the docks in Preston for work during the 18th century when the working population of England was very mobile and transient. My gfather came to Garston for the dock work as Garston docks were rapidly rising in trade links and he knew the area from when he was demobbed in 1919.I am looking through the census of 1891 for the preston area at the moment trying to find them.So all in all my Eden clan were late comers to St. Helens as previously explained. However all the Edens lived in the Parr area of St. Helens so I will look in the Street directories and see what I can find.
regardsJean
