My Edelen family (John Edelen married to Margaret Neale) first appears in Washington County, Kentucky in 1814 but could have arrived as earlier as 1811. Son Dominic Francis Edelen was born 1809 and son James Isadore Edelen was born in 1811 both in Maryland. Son Joseph C Edelen was born 14 Jun 1814 in Washington County, KY. On some of the tax records he appears as either John T or John F, can not tell which. They moved to Grayson County between 1822 - 1824. We know Margaret Neale was the daughter of Joseph Neale and Ann Adderton. We do not know anything about John. In "The Maryland Semmes and Kindred Families" page 309 it states at the distribution of the personal estate of Joseph Neale on May 30, 1809, Joseph Boone and John Edelen in the right of their wives received their shares of the estate. Joseph Boone was married to Margaret's sister Ursula Neale.
A cousin has found a clue as to a possibility of Johnís father name. The land and property index of 1811 for Charles County, Maryland showed a transfer of property from John Edelen to Francis Edelen. This could be property he was disposing of before moving to Kentucky. Because John gave his first son, Dominic, the middle name of Francis, it could be he was named after his grandfather, which was a common practice. My cousin is attempting to obtain the actual property transfer records from the Maryland archives to see if there is additional information which could be helpful in determining if this is the John we are seeking.
I am looking for clues about John and also descendants of his children James Isadore, Joseph C and daughter Margaret. I am a descendant of Dominic(k) Francis Edelen. Would you kindly see if there is anything in the Edelen references in Rutherford Book which might pertain to my search.
