Abbot Alexius Edelbrock

Abbot Alexius Edelbrock was born Anton Edelbrock September 12, 1843, in Dernekamp, Westfalia, West Prussia (near the current Dutch border.) His family immigrated to the United States in 1850, settling in Evansville, Indiana before moving to St. Cloud, Minnesota in 1854. He was a remarkable, brilliant man who touched the lives of thousands, and left his everlasting mark on St. John's where he began his work by teaching philosophy, Latin, Greek, history, English, and German. He passed away on May 18, 1908 in New York. Following his wishes, he was returned to St. John's Abbey and was buried in the Abbey cemetery over looking Lake Sagatogan.
I have five typed legal pages about Abbot Alexius, single spaced, typed by someone who signed their name McDowell, or McDonald. I can't read it clearly.
I have researched the Edelbrock family back to 1710 through the parish records in Dernekamp, and have old photocopies of them. I will be glad to assist anyone looking for more information on the Edelbrocks.
BTW, I am Gary Edelbrock, a retired college president, and Colonel, US Army. My brother Craig Stanley, also a Ph.D. is a tenured professor at Penn State. Our other brother, Mark Neal, is retired Captain and Fireboat Pilot from the Seattle Fire Department, and retired Lt. Colonel, for the Washington Air National Guard. Our father was Aloys Henry Edelbrock, born March 5, 1915, in Seattle, where he died in January 17, 1969. Our mother is Avis Drucilla Wilson, born March 7, 1914, in Seattle and still living in Washington in very good health.
Aloys was the first born son of Aloysius August Edelbrock, Bn: Feb 18, 1886 and married to Ellanor Lippy. He was the son of Wilhelm Henrich (Henry) Edelbrock Bn: October 30, 1858, who I believe came to America in 1880, boarding the ship in Germany under one name and arriving at Ellis Island, NY, using the Edelbrock name.(That took some time to figure out and track down.) However, that is another story.
Wilhelm Henrich was the son of Henrich Anton, the son of Johan Henrich, the son of Gerhard Henrich, the son of Gerhardus Henricus. The name of Edelbrock was always spelled Edelbrock back at least to 1710 in the parish records and may go further back. The exception took place when Wilhelm Henrich took the last name of a large land owner (the owner wasn't large, he just owned a great deal of land) to avoid being drafted into the Prussian army for 30 years. Yes, we have a draft dodger in the family, but who can blame him.
Anyway, Mary, Barbara, et al, check it out and let me know if I can be of any help. I have boxes of materials, and all I need to do now is find them. God Bless, Gary
