In The Eddy Family, Reunion at Providence to celebrate the Two Hundred and Fiftieth Anniversay of the Landing of John and Samuel Eddy at Plymouth, Oct. 29, 1630, 2nd ed. Boston, Mass, 1884. On p. 243 is mentioned a Dorcas Eddy, m. Asa Ray. She is mentioned as a sister to Thomas, Barbara, who m. a Nathan Place. Thankful who m. John Congdon and went to NY and Phebe who d. unmarried. When following the Eddy ascent it seems was a descndant of Zachariah Eddy b. 1691 in Swansea who m. in Providence, R.I., and last of his children was Eliphalet who m/1 Phebe King in 1737. There was an Eliphalet Eddy in Clarendon, VT. at the same time as William Ray, sometimes spelled Wray.

We have searched the Hinesburg, VT. records where William Ray settled about 1800, first deed there in Chittenden County, Vt. mentions that he "was of Clarendon, Vt." We found Eddys there, and found William mentioned in old history there as being one of the first settlers of Clarendon. In records in Hinesburg, one of his son's is said to be son of William Ray and Dorcas Eddy. William Ray's estate records (he died intestate ca 1844) mention his son, Asa Ray, and indeed Asa Ray and brothers, Philo and Calvin are buried in the Hinesburg cemetery-Ray/Gafney cemetery in township, not the city cemetery.

Family records say that William Ray was a son of William Ray of R.I., but cannot find the marriage for the younger William to Dorcas Eddy.

Other children of William ray/Wray and Dorcas Eddy were Abigain, Calvin, (mentioned)John (who was administer of the estate). Dorcas died and William Ray m/2 Abigail Wyman, but cannot find that marriage document either. They had George Ray (my ancestral line), Daniel Ray, Mary E. Ray, William Ray ("insane"), Phoebe who m. Augustus McEuen, and Sary "Sally" Ray who m. Ransome C. Miles. William finally m. Sybil Eggleston Livermore, who survived him, but is buried next to his second wife, Abigail Wyman in Gaffney- Ray cemtery, Hinesburg Township.

Can anybody out there tell us where William Ray and Dorcas Eddy were married. I have much Hinesburg documentation, but seem to have hit a brick wall there.
