Jason, here is what I know about these families. The way to keep the Joseph's apart is by their middle initials. One of the wives was born in Florida and the other in Alabama.
John Eddins was born 1810 in Chesterfield Co., S.C., married Maria (maiden name unknown) circa 1830, probably in Chesterfield Co. and moved to Wilcox Co. about 1839. Their children were Joseph C. born 1831, died circa 1864 in Civil War and John W., who was born 1843 in Wilcox Co.
Joseph C. Eddins (the census indicates J.G.) married Eliza Jane (maiden name unknown) 2/12/1856. She was born in Gadsden, Florida on 7/16/1836. They had the following kids: Thomas M. (Meredith), born 1857 (died 7/15/1897 in Wilcox C.) and Edward, born 1861. Possibly Edward died before the 1900 census. This Joseph Eddins family was not the one in Coffee Co.
Richard Eddins, born circa 1783 in Chestefield Co., S.C. had many kids, including son Joseph F. Eddins, born circa 1831, apparently in Pike Co., Ala. He died 2/18/1863 in Richmond, Va. (Civil War). Joseph F. married Elizabeth Burton 12/24/1853 in Randolph Co., Georgia. She was born in Alabama. I dont know how many kids they had, but their first was Thomas E., born 1/16/1853 in Pike Co. (Since he was born almost a year before his parents were married, perhaps explains why they married in Georgia.) In 1876 Thpomas E. married Nancy Flowers. This (Joseph F. Eddins) family is the one whose son Thomas moved to Coffee Co.
Edward Eddins (born 1861 - mentioned above) was the son of Joseph C. Eddins, but on the 1870 census was at the house of Joseph F. Eddins' widow, Eliza. Perhaps he was there to play with her son Thomas E., when the census was taken. Both Joseph C. Eddings and Joseph F. Eddins families lived in Wilcox Co., until THomas E. Eddins moved to Coffee Co.
E.I. Eddins was Eliza Jane Eddins, wife of Joseph C. Eddins. Again, the J.G. Eddins on the 1860 census was Joseph C. Eddins.
Dorothy Effie Fuller was the wife of Richard Eddins, born 1878, whose parents were Thomas E. and Nancy Flowers Eddins.
I hope this helps to clarify your thoughts. Bob.
