LEAL Y-DNA PROJECT
Dear forum members,
I would like to point out to those of you who are interested that a Leal Y-DNA project has been started. The webpage of the project is http://worldfamilies.net/surnames/l/leal/http://worldfamilies.net/surnames/l/leal/
Y-DNA research enables you to find out whether two male individuals with the same surname have a common paternal ancestor. This is a great new genealogical tool with enormous potential in my view.
As of yet I am the only participant in the project.I urge all male Leals anywhere in the world to do a Y-DNA test and post the results on the project webpage so that we can all start researching – for example - whether the Leals alive today have one common paternal ancestor.
Leals have dispersed all around the world (the USA, Mexico, Brazil, Latin America countries in general, the Canary Islands, the Azores, Spain, Portugal, France, Italy, England, Scotland, Turkey, Northern African countries such as Algeria, and even Australia). But where do we come from originally?Do we all share a same paternal ancestor?Do (some of us) have Sephardic Jewish roots? All and much more questions could be answered if you participate in this project.
If you are a lady and your father’s surname is Leal you cannot do the Y-DNA test yourself as Y-DNA is only past on from father to son (you can, however, do a mtDNA test, which follows the maternal line). If you want to join the project you have to ask a male Leal relative (father, brother, uncle, cousin) to take the test.
More information about doing a Y-DNA test can be found at:http://www.familytreedna.com/http://www.familytreedna.com/.You can also order a Y-DNA test at this website.
