Hi Lisa,
So many years have passed since your posting that you may have all your answers by now, but I don't, so I thought I would respond to your query anyhow. My ggrandfather was Peter Ecklund, and his brother was Charles A. Ecklund, both in Chicago, Ill. Both of them were born in Sweden. Peter died 1880, and the 1880 US Census shows Charles A. living in the next house from Peter's widow Anna at 189 W. Erie St. with her infant son (my grandfather Edward S.). Charles was 26 years old, a machine shop helper, and his wife at that time was Nettie, born in NY, parents born Scotland. In the 1880 Directory of Chicago, Charles is listed as a driver, living at 201 W. Erie St. Don't know if your Charles A. was in Chicago or not, but if so, we have a connection. (I did some research in Sweden last year--they have fabulous records, but we couldn't find emigration records for Charles or Peter--think they may have crossed into Norway before emigrating to the US.) Do let me know if any of this is helpful or if we are connected.
Best wishes,
