I noted an error in my previous message that I want to clear up.I misread my files while writing my other post and falsely claimed that Joseph Stiles Eckley was the son of Rev. Joseph Eckley, pastor of Old South Church in Boston.
My comment was: "Rev. Eckley's other son, Joseph Stiles Eckley, relocated his family to Buffalo, NY in 1840."Joseph Stiles Eckley was Rev. Eckley's GRANDSON, rather than his son.
Rev. Joseph Eckley had four sons:Joseph Eckley (merchant); Thomas Jeffries (attorney and my ancestor); David (merchant and father of Joseph Stiles), and John (died young). There was also a daughter, Sally, who married John Dean Callender of Boston.
Sophie Eckley was married to David Eckley, Jr. (as I stated in my previous message), who was the BROTHER of Joseph Stiles Eckley, rather than a nephew.
Joseph Stiles Eckley (b. Aug. 1819 in Boston, MA) married Elizabeth Perry Bailey (b. August 09, 1823, in CT).The couple lived in Buffalo, NY and had two sons: William (b. abt. 1841) and David.
David Eckley, Jr. (b. November 21, 1820, Boston, MA) married Sophia May Tuckerman (b. July 09, 1822).This couple livede in the Boston area and had two sons of their own:David Eckley, III (b. April 24, 1849 in Roxbury, MA) and William Hickling Prescott Eckley (b. August 08, 1851).
This should serve to set the record straight.
Thanks,
