Thanks so mich for the reply and the information. Since Jane was born about 1779 I thought maybe she was the daughter of John Eckles who died in 1788 in Va and maybe his brother Edward Eckles adopted her. I could not find a will for John Eckles. Were you able to find one. I ask since you said John Eckles and Mary Pleasnat had a daughter named Nancy and a son so I assumed it was either listed in the book you have or you were able to find a will. I know Edward Eckles who was the son of Edward eckles who was born I blieve in 1710 died in 1829 in Wilkes co Ga. It seems like I remember a reference to a Robert or Thomas Eckles who lived in Wilkes co Ga but that was probably a reference to the Edward eckles who went to Wilkes co Ga and who died in 1829. I found his will and he died not have a daughter named Jane who married a Solomon Ray. I found a list of the children of Edward Eckles and Mary Jackson. I don't know how accurate the names of their childrfen are but the list I found says they had children:
Would you know if any of these children of Edward Eckles (1710) went to Wilkes co Ga besides Edward Eckles who died in 1829 in Wilkes co Ga? If Jane was the daughter of one of the sons of Edward eckles and Mary Jackson her parents would have left Va and gone to Georgia or they died like John did and one of the other sons of Edward Eckles (1710) adopeted Jane or Nancy Jane. Just a guess. Since she was born aboiut 1779 and married Solomon Ray in 1796 in Wilkes co Ga at about age 17 then I am sure her parents were living in Wilkes co Ga. the reference on the internet says St Paul Parish which was Wilkes co Ga and maybe a few other counties at the time in Ga. I know Solomon Ray lived in Wilkes co Ga. If you ahve time to check the book to see if maybe we can find who Jane's parents were it would be greatly appreciated. I have searched for over five years trying to find who her parents were. There were a number of Echols families in the Wilkes co and Oglethorpe co Ga area in the 1790's but I have learned in my research that the Echols who lived in Amelia co and Surry co and Sussex co Va and the eckles who lived there at the same time were different families. The Echols descended from John Echols and Mary Cave. I don't think the Echols and the Eckles were related. I did notice on the marriage record for Solomon Ray and Jane Echols or Eckles that the name William Freeman and Sarah Freeman were written on it. IT was not weritten on a line or where one would expect a name to be written on a marriage record but was written at an angle in the middle of the page. In my research I found that the Eckles and the Freemans were close families in Surry co and Sussex co Va. You might see if there is a reference to a William Freeman in your book. Maybe he left Va with Edward eckles or one of his brothers and went to Wilkes co Ga also. Thanks,Ross
