I was told by a researcher that the name Eckersley came over with William the conqueror and stayed in the south of England. Thomas was the first person registered in the north of England in parish records. I am happy to be proved wrong. If your records go back to 1580 do you have thomas eckersley in them? Born about 1641? I would be interested to know.
