William Rainey, guardian, had married Obadiah's widow, Lucy Jackson Jones Echols. The first 3 children you listed were Lucy and Obadiah's-- Phillip Jackson Echols, Samuel Brame Echols, and Mary Claiborne (Polly) Echols. Lucy's mother was Elizabeth Claiborne, in direct line from the William Claibornes of VA; her first marriage was to a Lawson, so Lucy had step-siblings named Lawson. Lucy first married Abraham Jones, by whom she had 2 sons, then Obadiah Echols--3 children, then William Rainey--1 daughter. William Rainey first married a sister of Obadiah Echols, who died; they had at least one daughter who married Lucy's son by her first marriage, Edward Dandridge Jones. William Rainey also had two sons, but I'm not sure if they were from another wife, since none of the Echols material that I have gives anything other than the daughter. The other children listed in the will were from Obadiah's first marriage to Catherine McDaniel. If this isn't confusing enough, I have more!
