Echols families and Terry families seem to have moved south and west from VA at the same times and intermarried. Elizabeth (Betsey) Terry, daughter of David and Elizabeth Terry, married 5 Jul 1791 in Pittsylvania Co. VA Obediah Echols. They had a son Champness Terry Echols, b. 25 Feb 1803, known later as Rev. C.T. Echols. He d. 30 May 1878 and is buried Salem Cem., Teague, Freestone Co., TX Champness Terry Echols m. 10 Oct 1825 Campbell CO, VA Agnes T Clement b. 15 Aug 1804 Clarke CO, VA d. 3 Oct 1889 Freestone CO, TX d/o Benjamin Clement & Mary Chandler both buried Salem Cemetary, Freestone CO, TX Contrary listing says: Rev C T Echols, born Tennessee, migrated to Texas by 1850 census, buried in Salem Cemetary near Teague, Limestone County, TX. (may be a mistyping or the county name may have changed.) Rev. C.T. Echols did not have a son named Terry, unless the son went by an unknown middle name. I am not sure whether Rev. C.T. Echols was a Methodist or a Baptist. I have heard of Quakers among the Echols. If Methodist, his moves may have been ordered by his Bishop. The Methodsit church was among those who moved to the frontier, from President Washington's time or earlier, in order to convert and "civilize" the native peoples. The Echols and Terry families intermarried in VA and elsewhere. In the Global Search, enter the names Terry Echols, and you will see. Find Terry on the Echols forum and Echols on the Terry forum.
