Hi
Solomon Ray and Jane echols named one of their sons Ransom Ray. Th Rays were close to the Moores. I don't know i if there is a connection there.
The reason I am contacting you is because you have alsways tried to helpme before find who the parents wereof Jae Echols who was bor in 1779-1789 and married Solomon Ray in 1796 in Wilkes co Ga. I fund a later census report that said Jane was born in NC. I don't know if that is correct but it probably is. I had an idea maybe you could help me with if you don't mind since I think yoou have more resources than I do or you know whre to find the informatio if it exists. IF the census reprot from 1`850 that said Jane was born about 1`779-1780 is correct then all we need is a list of the Echols living in NC in 1780 and we will know who Jane's father ws or at least we will have a choice of a number of echols listed and one should be her ather. OF course the only problem is there was no 1780 census. I found a book at the library that listed tax payers from 1782-1787 if I rememer right. It listed a number of Echols (different spellings) and another book listed Echols paying taxes from about 1700-1790. You had sent me info about John Echols who died in 1750 in Beaufort co NC. Apparently the name of one of his sons looked like Cobb but it was Caleb. There were Echols listed I had never heard of.I had read that John Echols left Va in 1748 or 1749 and went to Beaufort co NC but he was listed in 1742 inBeufort co NC. Iassume it was the same John Echolls who was the son of John Echols and Mary Cave. Maybe it was his on. There was a John and a william listed in 1764 in Orange co NC. James Echols was listed in 1764 in Beaufort co NC and a John and a Josie listed in 1755. Josie was the son of John Ecols who died in 1750 in Beaufort co NC. There was a George,Tredwick and William listed in Beaufort co NC in 1786. There was a Frederick Echolls listed in 1780 in Dobbs co NC. Frederick Echols was not from the John Echols and Mar Cave line of Echols. His father was Jacb Echols born in 1730 in Penn and went to Rowan co NC. He had sons Frederick, Jacob, and I believe John and Peter Echols. Apparently Jacob's brother was John Echols married to a Christianna Braun. The were from Geormany originally and went to Penn. It would seem one of these Echols was the father of Jane. Jane might have bee her middle name. I thought you might have resources that might show other Echols in NC about 1780. Any help apprecaited. Thanks, Ross
