I find the following marriage record:
ECHOLS, A. T.
RYERSON, Mrs. I. J.
Lewis and Clark County, Montana
20 Jan 1886
This sounds suspiciously like my 3rd great grandmother, Isabel Jane (Stevens) Ryerson, who was born 08 Aug 1843 in Ontario, Canada. She came to Montana from Chicago, Illinois, in 1873 and married 1st Simeon Waldo Ryerson in July of 1873. She later married W. R. Popejoy at Elliston, Montana (date unknown).
I am attempting to determine if this Mr. Echols might have been a third husband. Until the last few days, I had understood she was only married twice. Her first husband went to California to seek his fortune and is said to have died in 1888 on his way home from California.
I have been unable to find out anything about Mr. Popejoy except that he drowned in the Yellow River in 1895, but have always heard her referred to as Grandma Popejoy, so have assumed Popejoy was her last husband.
