I have the book WAYFARERS IN WALTON. It does not mention the treasurer story. I will try your suggestion.
When we were in Georgia a few years ago, I attempted to find his grave. No one seemed to know where it was. I had heard that they were attempting to move his grave. I tried to find out more about it, but again, no one knew anything about it.
At one time, the family had a walking cane carved from the tree where he was buried first. It was blown away in a tornado several years ago.
