The Echlin name first appeared on the 'RAGMAN ROLL' which was they signed at Berwich on Tweed in the 24th year of 'Edward the first'
1296 - 28th August

Amongst the signatures to the Roll at this date appear those of

RAUF ECHLIN of the County of Edinburgh
ROBERT DE EGHLYN, tenant of the King in the same County; and
RAUG D'EGHLYN, of Haddington, tenant of the King in the County of Edinburgh.

The next of the family of whom there is authentic record is under the date of:

1342 - 11th January, when

Jophn De Eythlin ('Senescallus noster') witnessed a Charter, granted by Patrick de Dunbar, Earl of March. --'Cartulary of Melrose'

There is more but time is running out at the moment.

Kind regards
Valerie (
