Reynolds Press Feb 16 1906
Eberhart-Charles Eberhart was born about 43 years ago in the town of Edgington and died on Jan 21, 1906, at the Pacific Branch of the National Home for the Disabled Volunter Soldiers, located near Los Angeles, California. He was the son of Albert Eberhart, and spent most of his life in Rock Island County, following the trade of painter and pper hanger, at one time living in Reynolds. Later he took up photography and followed that vocation for a while in Rock Island. Being in Nebraska in 1898 at the beginning of the Spanish-American War he enlisted and served for several years with the Third Infantry of that state, seeing service in Cuba and the Phillippines, while in the army he contracted consumption which resulted in his death as stated above. His interesting letters to the press have already told the story of the last year of his life. He was a soldier of his country, a man of honerable convictions and an easy and versatile writer. Our readers together with his only sister, living in Kansas, sincerely mourn his death.
