My stepdaughter's grandfather was Elmer Herman Otto Ebeling born in Illinois in 1899, a son of (Dedric? Dietrich?) Ebeling, born 1877 in Germany, and his wife Emma or Freda (in 1900 she was "Emma," in 1920 "Freda," unless there were 2 different wives). She was born in 1877. They also had a son, Richard Ebeling, born about 1901/1902. In 1920 there was a Leslie Wendt, age 15, listed as "stepson," with the family -- perhaps indicating that Freda was, in fact, a second wife with a child when she married Mr. Ebeling.
