My family has lived in Ft. Run KY area dating to the 1800's.I haven't gotten past that date, YETHowever........... I suspected I had a condition called Hereditary Hemochromatosis (which is an iron metabolism disorder- or "iron overload").I asked my PCP for a referal to a GI who did do DNA testing looking for the genetic HFE marker.
I am positive for C282y/C282y double mutation. There are other combinations of the HFE genes. My parents happen to each be a carrier of the gene & are asymptomatic.
One in 200 Americans have hereditary hemochromatosis, esp those of Irish, English, Northern European ancestry.Hemochromatosis has also been dubbed "The Celtic Curse".
Will this DNA info provide MEDICAL info, as well as running lines?
Thank You,
