I am descended from Whitmans, but they were lastly Nova Scotia Whitmans that descended from John Whitman of Weymouth (and Richard Palgrave, the "gateway ancestor" to Edward I). My Whitman line ends with Salome Whitman (1755-1831), born in "Stow," in what is now Vermont. She was second married to Nathaniel Parker. Then on to Deacon John Whitman, the immigrant who settled in Weymouth, Mass., and beginning with Abijah Whitman, who was born in Holt, England, in 1560. Abraham Lincoln is descended from Whitmans, too. He is a 5th or 6th cousin of mine many times removed. So is Walt Whitman a distant cousin. ...
