Hi Nathaniel, It has been some years since I looked at the De Eton family of Cheshire. I believe most everything I know comes from Ormerod's History of Cheshire. I can't find my copy right now but I believe you can now find copies on the internet. Basically, they way I remember it, the Eton's of Cheshire were originally a cadet branch of the Pulford family, i.e. a younger son of the Pulford family inherited the manor of Eton in Cheshire (note: there are many manors of the name Eton, Eaton, Eyton, etc. in England which should not be confused with each other). This Pulford cadet branch eventually became known as 'de Eton'. After several generations the male line died out and the properties passed to the Grosvenor's of Eaton. From what I remember, there are no surviving male lines with the surname Eton/Eaton which descend from Nicholas De Eton. They do not connect to the Eaton families in Shropshire, Warwickshire or Kent as the name derives from a completely different source (i.e. the Manor of Eton in Cheshire).
